SaaS Management Platforms (SMPs) discover, govern, and automate the lifecycle of SaaS applications across the organization. Core capabilities include application discovery through SSO logs, expense systems, and browser extensions (surfacing shadow IT); license and user provisioning/deprovisioning at onboarding and offboarding; usage analytics that identify unused and underutilized seats; access governance workflows; security posture signals (OAuth grants, admin access, MFA coverage); and integration with IdP, HRIS, and ITSM systems. SMPs emerged specifically to address the visibility and governance gap that opened when SaaS adoption decentralized software procurement.
