DataHub is an open-source metadata platform (often used as a data catalog) with a commercial SaaS offering. The platform focuses on:
- Search and discovery across the modern data stack (data warehouses/lakes, BI tools, orchestration, ML systems, etc.).
- End-to-end lineage and impact analysis to identify downstream dependencies.
- Governance workflows for ownership, certification, and policy/compliance processes.
- Data observability and quality monitoring (metadata-based tests, anomaly detection, incident workflows) in the commercial offering.
The open-source DataHub provides a metadata graph, ingestion framework, web application, and APIs. The commercial DataHub Cloud provides a managed SaaS option with additional governance, AI, and observability features and with vendor-managed operational components.
