Autodesk AutoCAD Raster Design is a raster-editing and raster-to-vector toolset that runs within AutoCAD (and certain AutoCAD-based verticals) to:
- Insert and manage scanned drawings, aerial imagery, and raster maps in CAD
- Clean up raster images (despeckle, touch-up, deskew/bias, mirror, etc.)
- Perform Raster Entity Manipulation (REM) so users can edit raster primitives (lines, arcs, circles) using AutoCAD-like commands
- Vectorize raster linework into DWG geometry and apply OCR to convert raster text to editable CAD text
Autodesk presents Raster Design primarily as a component intended for workflows where legacy paper drawings, scans, and imagery are reused inside DWG-based processes, rather than as a specialized standalone vectorization product.
Important product reality (packaging): Autodesk’s current positioning is that the Raster Design toolset is included with AutoCAD 2026 (as one of AutoCAD’s included toolsets), rather than being marketed as a separately licensed product for most new purchases. Community discussion indicates it may still require an additional install or enablement step that can be missed depending on deployment choices.
