- New deployments
- Organizations that are not eligible existing customers should not plan new deployments with Monitron because new customer onboarding ended on October 31, 2024.
- Long-term platform strategy
- If an organization requires a platform with an active, expanding product roadmap and availability for new customers, Monitron’s restricted availability creates strategic risk.
- Need for openness and customization
- If the organization requires a heterogeneous sensor ecosystem, substantial analytics customization, or deep integrations, specialist reliability vendors or platform approaches may be more appropriate.
- Safety-critical/hazardous applications
- The device terms of use advise against using Monitron in hazardous or safety-critical systems where failure could cause severe harm; such environments should not rely on Monitron.
- Primary need is work management rather than condition sensing
- If the principal requirement is work-order execution, parts and inventory management, or preventative maintenance scheduling, a dedicated CMMS/EAM may be a more appropriate primary investment.
- Current limitations acknowledged by the vendor
- The service is not available to new customers after October 31, 2024. Device sales were indicated to continue until July 2025, with a five-year device warranty offered for covered devices.
- Scale limitations
- Hardware purchase costs and ongoing per-sensor service charges can become material at scale; vendor-published illustrations show potentially substantial Year 1 totals for larger deployments.
- Technical limitations and constraints
- Devices have fixed physical and performance characteristics (for example, IP rating and battery life) and extending modality coverage requires different hardware.
- The model of a bundled vendor-managed hardware and analytics stack introduces an ecosystem dependency on the vendor’s devices and service model.
- Security/compliance gaps
- The Monitron-specific scope of compliance attestations is not consolidated in public Monitron pages; buyers should confirm Monitron’s inclusion in relevant AWS compliance reports via formal channels.
