Critical evaluation:
AWS DeepLens was a developer-oriented edge AI camera (1080p camera with on-device inference capability) designed to enable engineers to prototype and explore computer-vision workflows using AWS components (notably AWS Lambda, AWS IoT Greengrass, and model training via Amazon SageMaker). Early positioning emphasized conducting deep learning experiments on a physical device in addition to cloud-based workflows.
AWS published multiple sample project templates (e.g., object detection, face detection, style transfer, "Hot Dog / Not Hot Dog," bird classification) that bundled a model and Lambda code intended to accelerate demonstrations and learning.
