Cadence Romax refers to the Romax drivetrain and ePowertrain simulation software suite that entered the Cadence portfolio through Cadence’s acquisition of Hexagon’s Design & Engineering (D&E) business (which previously contained Romax as part of Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence/System Dynamics portfolio). In practical terms, Romax is used by mechanical and powertrain teams to model complete drivetrains (gears, shafts, bearings, housings, lubrication/thermal effects depending on module) and evaluate competing designs for:
- Durability / structural performance (loads, deflections, misalignment, gear/bearing ratings)
- NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) and system dynamics
- Efficiency / losses (including load-dependent losses, and in some workflows CFD-informed losses)
- Bearing design and advanced bearing analysis (in the Spin module)
- Early concept layout and sizing (Concept)
The product is used as a virtual prototyping/digital-twin style CAE tool intended to reduce physical prototypes and rework.
