Cisco Virtual Topology System (VTS) is Cisco’s software-overlay management and provisioning system for data center fabrics. It automates provisioning and lifecycle operations of VXLAN EVPN overlays (and related underlay elements) across Cisco Nexus switching and certain routing platforms, with northbound REST APIs and integrations into cloud/virtualization managers (for example, OpenStack and VMware vCenter).
Cisco describes VTS as:
- A standards-based overlay automation layer (BGP-EVPN control plane, VXLAN; documentation also references some MPLS-related capabilities in certain variants).
- A tool intended to reduce manual fabric provisioning and to increase consistency across virtual and physical infrastructure.
Official product materials present automated provisioning, topology discovery, support for open protocols, and REST APIs as primary capabilities.
