Cisco Multicloud Defense (MCD) is a cloud-delivered network security platform intended to provide centralized policy and enforcement across multiple public clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI) and some private-cloud patterns. It uses:
- A SaaS control plane (controller) for visibility, policy definition, and orchestration.
- In-cloud enforcement gateways deployed into customer cloud accounts (PaaS-style) to inspect and control ingress, egress, and east-west traffic.
Vendor materials describe MCD as intended to reduce per-cloud security tooling and operational overhead and to provide features such as WAF-like L7 inspection, IDS/IPS, TLS decryption, URL/FQDN filtering, and DLP—applied with a write-once, enforce-across-clouds model. Vendor materials also describe deployments as capable of being rapid, sometimes citing very short deployment times.
