Confluent Stream Processing is Confluent’s stream-processing layer within the broader Confluent data streaming platform. The stream-processing capability is delivered primarily through:
- Confluent Cloud for Apache Flink (a managed, serverless Flink service supporting SQL, Python, and Java processing).
- ksqlDB (SQL-based stream processing for Confluent Platform / Kafka-centric deployments).
- (Optionally) Kafka Streams (a client library approach, not a managed service), commonly used alongside Confluent Kafka infrastructure.
The service performs filtering, joining, enrichment, and aggregation of events in near real time in proximity to Kafka topics, and publishes derived streams to downstream systems such as data warehouses, data lakes, microservices, OLAP systems, or feature stores. The vendor presents this as an alternative to assembling open-source Kafka, Flink, governance, and connectors independently.
