01Common complaints

- Company sizes or stages where this product is overkill or insufficient - Overkill for small/mobile virtual operators with minimal control of packet core infrastructure and limited operational staff. - Industries or use cases where competitors are clearly superior - If the primary requirement is Gi/SGi firewalling and Gi-LAN security consolidation, vendors focused on Gi/SGi firewall capabilities (for example, A10 Networks) may be a more direct fit. - If the priority is a broad enterprise application delivery and security platform with large existing operational footprint, vendors such as F5 may be favored. - Technical requirements that this product cannot meet - Public materials do not document hard limitations; specific technical requirements and compatibility constraints should be validated during architecture workshops and POCs. - Budget constraints that make alternatives more appropriate - If budget is constrained, operators sometimes evaluate open-source or commodity approaches for some functions; for carrier-grade inline user-plane mediation, such approaches carry operational risk and may not be equivalent. - Specific workflows or integrations where the product falls short - If an operator requires public, out-of-the-box documentation for integrations (SSO/SCIM/audit APIs), Enea’s public documentation footprint for 5G-SE appears limited; request detailed documentation during evaluation. - Red flags in the buying process - Reliance on vendor-published metrics without disclosed methodology. - Limited independent review coverage; buyers should request references and measurable POCs. - Current limitations acknowledged by the vendor - The vendor acknowledges that perfect classification is unrealistic in a rapidly evolving landscape and notes the challenges posed by increasing encryption; this is a relevant limitation for DPI-driven products. - Features on the roadmap (not yet available) - Roadmap details were not captured in the accessible sources for this report; request a current roadmap during vendor evaluation. - Scale limitations (at what volume/size does it break down?) - Performance and scale limits are not documented publicly; obtain sizing guidance and run performance testing during a POC. - Security or compliance gaps - Security certifications (SOC 2/ISO 27001) are not clearly documented publicly for 5G-SE; this requires validation. - Technical debt or architectural limitations mentioned in reviews - No direct reviews were found that document technical debt or architectural constraints specific to 5G-SE. - API limitations or integration constraints - API and integration details were not available in the public sources reviewed; request API/operations documentation during evaluation.

Why some customers left for competitors (churn reasons)

No direct, attributable churn stories were found in accessible public sources for 5G-SE.

02Why they buy

- Competitive advantages validated by customer feedback (not just vendor claims) - Independent customer validation for 5G-SE specifically is limited in public review sources. The product differentiation described below is primarily based on vendor positioning and adjacent corroborating materials. - Unique features and capabilities competitors lack - The vendor emphasizes a convergent approach supporting both 4G and 5G user-plane processing as a single platform to support migration scenarios. - Differentiation from competitors based on reviews - Independent review-based differentiation was not available in accessible sources for 5G-SE. - Value propositions with evidence from case studies - Evidence of vendor adoption appears in press releases and contract announcements; operational metrics and independent evaluations were not available for public review in this run. - Areas where competitors clearly have advantages (be balanced) - A10: stronger focus on Gi/SGi firewall and Gi-LAN security consolidation. - F5: broader application delivery/security portfolio and larger enterprise footprint. - Enea: relative weakness in publicly available independent review coverage and limited public security certification documentation specific to 5G-SE.

Why customers chose this product over alternatives (evidence available)

Based on Enea’s public positioning, reasons a buyer might select 5G-SE include:
- Dual-mode capability covering both 4G and 5G user plane functions to support migration scenarios.
- DPI-based classification/mediation and user-plane processing capabilities intended for service differentiation and optimization.
- Cloud-native deployment direction and ecosystem certifications relevant to telco cloud platforms.

03Field reports

- Availability constraint - Public, named case studies specifically for Enea 5G Service Engine were limited in publicly accessible sources. - Related Enea case study example (adjacent, not 5G-SE) - Enea published a case study about migrating its AdaptiveMobile Security SMS firewall platform to VMware Tanzu in preparation for 5G migration for a customer. This demonstrates the vendor’s experience with cloud-native telecom migrations, but it is not a direct performance case study for 5G Service Engine. - Public financial / contract disclosures (signal of adoption) - Some public disclosures (e.g., press releases) reference agreements that include cloud-native traffic management software, including the 5G Service Engine, and may reference commercial terms. These signal adoption but do not provide operational metrics or customer satisfaction outcomes. - CRITICAL: Note when metrics are vendor-published without independent verification - Traffic coverage and scale claims available on vendor pages (examples: technical coverage figures and subscriber scale claims) are vendor-published and did not include independent methodology or verification in the material reviewed.

Important limitation (review availability)

Major review platforms appear to have little to no direct review coverage specifically for Enea 5G Service Engine. This aligns with expectations for carrier-grade telecom products that are sold to a small number of large operators rather than broadly reviewed SMB software.
