IBM Cloud Block Storage is a persistent, network-attached block storage service for IBM Cloud workloads. It provides attachable volumes for virtual servers, bare metal servers, and container/Kubernetes environments, designed for low-latency access, predictable performance characteristics, and enterprise data-management features (snapshots, replication, encryption at rest).
IBM provides two primary provisioning experiences:
- IBM Cloud Block Storage for VPC (for IBM Cloud VPC environments)
- IBM Cloud Block Storage (Classic) (for the legacy Classic IBM Cloud network)
Key vendor-stated capabilities include configurable performance (IOPS), encryption at rest, detach/reattach functionality, snapshots, and replication for disaster recovery. Official overview: Product overview and feature pages
