Consider alternatives when:
1. The organization's primary workloads are not on IBM Z / Parallel Sysplex; GDPS is not designed as a general DR orchestrator for cloud-native stacks.
2. Transparent, self-serve pricing is required for quick procurement and experimentation; GDPS pricing is typically enterprise-quoted.
3. The organization cannot support the operational complexity (skills, DR drills, change control); lacking operational maturity can increase risk when deploying advanced automation.
4. The organization prefers to outsource DR execution rather than build in-house resilience engineering capabilities; managed services (for example, DRaaS providers) may be more appropriate.
5. The primary risk focus is cyber recovery verification (immutability and clean-room restore validation) rather than site failover; specialized cyber-recovery solutions should be prioritized or used alongside GDPS where relevant.
