IBM Host On Demand (HOD) is a browser-delivered web-to-host terminal emulation and host-access toolkit used to access legacy host applications and data (mainframe and midrange) from a centralized server deployment. It provides TN3270E/TN5250 and VT-family emulation, and includes capabilities for building or integrating host-access–enabled web applications.
Key functions commonly associated with HOD deployments:
- Terminal emulation: TN3270E (IBM Z/mainframe), TN5250 (IBM i), VT52/100/220/420 families.
- Centralized deployment model (historically Java-based client delivery; recent offerings include a managed Host On Demand option to reduce local JVM requirements).
- Admin utilities, session management, and (depending on edition) integration APIs.
