01Common complaints

1. **If you are starting net-new in 2026 and the available SKU/version is out of support** - IBM lifecycle data for “InfoSphere Change Data Delivery for Information Server 11.3.3” shows end-of-support on **September 30, 2025**, which makes net-new adoption risky unless IBM provides a supported successor path. 2. **If your primary targets are modern cloud warehouses/lakes and you want a managed service** - Tools like AWS DMS, cloud-native CDC offerings, or vendor-managed ingestion services may reduce operations burden. 3. **If you can’t staff specialized IBM InfoSphere/CDC admins** - Operational complexity (upgrades/recovery/troubleshooting) is a recurring complaint in adjacent reviews. 4. **If licensing transparency and predictable unit economics are essential** - IBM CDD pricing is not public; negotiation and bundling can create forecasting uncertainty.

Deal disqualifiers

Need for a fully managed SaaS CDC service with simple self-serve onboarding
Strong preference for open-source-first tooling
Hard requirement for published, product-specific SOC2/ISO evidence without NDA
New deployment where the available version is out of support (major risk)

Lifecycle limitation (high severity)

A key limitation for decision-makers: public IBM lifecycle data shows end-of-support for CDD for Information Server 11.3.3 on September 30, 2025, with no service extensions available.

Platform/UX constraints implied by IBM documentation

IBM’s support pages indicate Management Console is Windows-only for at least some distributions, which can be a constraint in Linux-first enterprise environments.

Observability and latency diagnostics

G2 reviews request better “log details” and latency behavior—suggesting operational troubleshooting can be challenging.

Roadmap visibility

IBM’s public product page does not provide a clear roadmap. Buyers should request a written statement of direction and supported upgrade paths.

02Why they buy

Evidence-supported differentiation (with caveats)

Integration with IBM InfoSphere stack (DataStage/QualityStage/MDM) is the most credible differentiator, repeatedly emphasized by IBM’s own product messaging.
Low-impact capture narrative (send only changes) is central to IBM’s positioning, though buyers should validate source-system impact with POCs.

Where competitors may have an edge

GoldenGate: breadth, maturity, and mindshare in heterogeneous replication; often a “default” for Oracle-centric shops.
Qlik Replicate: strong presence in modern analytics ingestion patterns; many community examples exist for lake/warehouse replication scenarios.

03Field reports

What’s available publicly (limitations)

CDD itself has limited direct presence on major review platforms (G2/TrustRadius often index **InfoSphere Data Replication** rather than “Change Data Delivery” as a separate SKU). As a result, user evidence below is drawn from: - Vendor review platform product pages covering IBM InfoSphere Data Replication (CDC-related) - Industry community forums and discussion threads (including Reddit-style communities) - Peer review site content for IBM InfoSphere Information Server / DataStage (adjacent)

Review platform highlights (G2 — positives)

Examples from G2 (IBM InfoSphere Data Replication reviews):

Positive (ease/coverage): “Capabilities to read all popular databases and write to popular targets… used to connect to DB2, Oracle and write to Kafka and HDFS. Very easy to use.” (Architect, enterprise reviewer)
Positive (general sentiment): some reviewers report “no drawbacks” in their context, describing it as useful for CDC job creation and replication.

Review platform highlights (G2 — negatives)

Examples from G2 (IBM InfoSphere Data Replication reviews):

Latency/observability gap: “Its latency could have better been… log details could have better been.”
Cost/complexity/training: one G2 review states it’s “expensive,” lacks free training compared to others, and that “setup and maintenance are complex,” with issues during upgrades and recovery time.

Community/social evidence (Reddit — mixed)

Direct CDD-specific threads are rare; however, adjacent IBM InfoSphere/DataStage discussions commonly cite: - **Tooling complexity and legacy process overhead** (DataStage environments with file-based version control and heavy change control processes were criticized in one Data Engineering subreddit thread). - **Practical “how CDC works” confusion**: a Reddit thread asking about IBM CDC replication latency illustrates that even experienced users can find CDC behavior and latency characteristics non-obvious.

Why customers choose IBM CDC/CDD-style tooling (patterns)

Based on IBM positioning plus review evidence for IBM’s replication stack:

Existing IBM footprint (DataStage/Information Server/MDM)
Need for low-impact capture (log-based) rather than heavy extract queries
Heterogeneous targets (e.g., Kafka/HDFS mentioned by reviewers)

Why some customers leave / avoid (patterns)

Commonly cited in adjacent reviews and community discussion: - **Cost** (enterprise licensing; “expensive” sentiment on review platforms) - **Complex setup/operations** (upgrade/recovery pain, maintenance complexity) - **Modern cloud-first integration gaps** (uncertainty about cloud targets appears in older reviews; modern expectations often favor managed services) - **Support/lifecycle risk** (end-of-support for certain Information Server versions is a major red flag for new deployments)

Vendor-published and third-party case material (availability and caveats)

CDD has limited high-quality, independently verified case studies publicly available. A third-party case-like page claims an ETL improvement (e.g., a significant reduction in runtime) using IBM InfoSphere with Change Data Delivery; however: - The domain/source quality appears questionable and is not an authoritative analyst publication. - Methodology (what changed, baseline conditions, workloads, measurement period) is not clearly verifiable. **Assessment:** Treat performance claims as anecdotal unless the buyer can obtain a credible, detailed reference architecture and independent validation (ideally with customer reference calls).

What to ask for in references (practical)

Measured end-to-end latency at steady state and during peak load
Impact on source system CPU/IO and log retention
Upgrade history and major incident postmortems
Staffing model (FTEs required to run it)

04Best fit

Company size

Typically large enterprises with mature data platforms and formal governance.

Industries

Common fit includes industries with:

High data volume and strict operational continuity: financial services, insurance, telecom, retail, government.

Roles/personas

Data integration architects
ETL/DataStage platform owners
DBAs responsible for source performance
Data governance owners (if coupled with IBM Information Server suite)

Best-fit pain points

Batch ETL windows too long; need incremental, event-driven or near real-time updates
Need to reduce extract load on transactional systems
IBM-stack standardization (DataStage/MDM/QualityStage)

05The pitch

What the product does (objective core value proposition)

IBM InfoSphere Change Data Delivery (CDD) is an IBM change data capture (CDC) and “change delivery” product designed to detect changes in source systems and deliver only the deltas to IBM InfoSphere ecosystem targets (notably InfoSphere DataStage ETL, InfoSphere data warehouses, QualityStage, and IBM Master Data Management). IBM positions it as enabling near real-time integration while minimizing overhead on production systems by capturing and sending only changed data. IBM’s product page emphasizes: - Real-time / near real-time delivery of changes - Lower performance impact on sources by sending only changes - Tight integration with DataStage (event-driven ETL / cleansing)

Target market and market positioning

- **Target buyers:** Large enterprises already standardized on IBM InfoSphere (DataStage/Information Server, QualityStage, MDM) and/or IBM data replication components. - **Positioning:** A “real-time” augmentation to batch ETL; also often considered part of IBM’s broader **InfoSphere Data Replication / CDC** portfolio. IBM messaging and collateral frequently treat “Change Data Delivery” as a packaging / capability set built around CDC technology.
