1. **Need for production-like concurrency and timing realism**
- If primary defects are race conditions, session handling, terminal timing, or production-region tuning, batch-style simulation may not reproduce those behaviors.
2. **Need for a full test management/CI platform**
- BTS is not designed as a full ALM suite (test planning, dashboards, coverage analytics, pipeline orchestration). Additional tooling is typically required.
3. **Primary bottleneck is test data management**
- If the dominant cost is creating or resetting IMS database state, test data management tools may provide more immediate value than a terminal simulator.
4. **Lack of in-house IMS expertise**
- If the organization does not have IMS TM/DB skills and cannot retain them, the operational cost of using BTS and interpreting its traces may outweigh the benefits.
5. **Procurement requires transparent list pricing and abundant peer reviews**
- BTS has limited presence on mainstream review platforms and IBM does not publish simple list pricing for the product; procurement processes that require these inputs may find BTS's public information insufficient.
