OMPE is a Db2-focused monitoring and tuning product; organizations seeking unified full-stack APM may prefer a different primary platform and use OMPE only for specialist data export.
The organization lacks Db2/z/OS performance expertise and does not plan to obtain such skills. Extracting value from OMPE typically requires personnel familiar with Db2 internals and mainframe operations.
The procurement process requires abundant third-party product reviews and transparent marketplace pricing. OMPE has limited coverage on mainstream consumer review platforms compared with more widely used distributed-system tools.
The organization is already standardized on a competing mainframe tooling ecosystem (e.g., BMC or Rocket) and prefers to minimize tooling heterogeneity due to training and operational consistency concerns.
Comparative disadvantages (where competitors may have advantages):
Available vendor materials and case study content identify decision drivers such as:
Example vendor-published case studies describe situations where OMEGAMON agents were used for alerting and where OMEGAMON Data Provider was used to stream telemetry to external visualization platforms.
Because product-specific churn narratives were not widely available, the following reasons are inferred from enterprise/mainframe tool evaluation patterns:
