Tech coverage tends to focus on IBM Z platform launches and upgrades more than on the compiler itself; platform launches can drive compiler upgrade decisions because new hardware and architecture levels create opportunities for compiler-level optimization.
| Starting Price | Quote-based; published pricing and licensing details available from the vendor | Quote-based; published pricing available from the vendor | Project-based engineering cost plus platform/runtime expenses |
| Most appropriate for | Enterprises with large PL/I estates on z/OS | Organizations aiming to move workloads off mainframe | Organizations willing to re-implement logic for a long-term platform shift |
| Key strength | Native alignment with IBM Z and continuity for PL/I; support for newer z/Architecture levels | Potential to reduce mainframe dependency if migration succeeds | Access to a larger talent pool; cloud-native deployment options |
| Key weakness | Niche skills; mainframe procurement and cost complexity | Migration risk; functional and performance parity challenges | High risk, long timelines, and regression risk |
