IBM VM Recovery Manager (VMRM) for Power is an automation layer for high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) in IBM Power environments running PowerVM. Rather than classic application-level clustering, VMRM focuses on VM/LPAR mobility and restart orchestration across one site (HA) and across sites (DR). It uses a central controller (commonly referred to in IBM materials as the KSYS manager / KSYS LPAR) to detect topology changes, coordinate storage replication actions in DR scenarios, and execute recovery workflows.
The product is positioned as a restart-based HA/DR solution that supports AIX, IBM i, and Linux workloads on Power. It includes features described for DR rehearsals, host/VM/application monitoring, and policy-based automation (for example, live partition mobility-driven evacuation for maintenance, or restart-based recovery).
