IBM Trusteer Pinpoint Malware Detection (PMD) is a fraud-channel security capability that detects malware-infected customer devices (desktop and mobile) that access an organization’s digital properties, and associates instances of device compromise with fraud risk. This allows fraud teams to apply risk-based responses (for example, step-up authentication, blocking, or manual review). The product is designed to identify man-in-the-browser/overlay-style threats and other device compromise signals that server-side fraud controls may not detect.
Important scope clarification: IBM’s Trusteer product messaging typically distinguishes between Pinpoint Detect as a broader cloud risk platform (identity, device, behavior, network) and Pinpoint Malware Detection as a specific malware-detection component within the Trusteer family. PMD is commonly evaluated alongside, or as a component of, Pinpoint Detect deployments.
