IBM Z Observability Connect (formerly Z APM Connect) is a mainframe-to-enterprise observability connector. Its function is to extract and translate telemetry from z/OS subsystems (for example, traces; metrics/logs are addressed via related components and integrations) and export that telemetry using OpenTelemetry (OTLP). The exported telemetry is intended to enable correlation of transactions that span public cloud, distributed, and mainframe environments, reducing zones of limited observability in hybrid deployments and aiming to shorten time-to-identify incident sources.
Vendor-stated objective: deliver trace/metrics/logs signals from z/OS to enterprise observability platforms via OpenTelemetry and support end-to-end application observability.
