There is no direct product that replaces the native z/OS networking stack. The practical competitive landscape consists of augmentation (third-party tools) and architectural alternatives (modernizing applications to reduce legacy protocol dependencies).
| Starting Price | Pricing is tied to IBM Z/z/OS licensing and not published as a standalone SKU | Vendor-quoted; not presented as a simple web SKU | Quote-based enterprise licensing typical for security appliances |
| Typical use case | Organizations needing first-party z/OS TCP/IP and SNA/VTAM integration and sysplex-aware networking | Organizations needing enhanced visibility/diagnostics/operations UI on top of z/OS TCP/IP | Organizations standardizing secure remote access and secure file transfer patterns on z/OS |
| Key strength | Native platform integration and vendor support; integration with z/OS security and sysplex constructs | Operational network management views and diagnostics tailored to mainframe TCP/IP | Specialist focus on SSH protocols and secure communications workflows |
| Key limitation | Limited product-level public review coverage; inherent legacy protocol complexity | Adds vendor dependency and cost; does not replace the TCP/IP stack | Addresses a subset of communications needs rather than a full networking stack |
