Oracle’s IoT offering comprises two related layers:
1. OCI IoT Platform (OCI “Internet of Things Platform”) — an Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) PaaS that ingests device telemetry (MQTT/HTTP/WebSockets), normalizes it into digital twin models, and persists it into an Oracle Autonomous Database for downstream analytics and application integration. The platform provides an ingestion, normalization, and data-access layer within OCI; performance characteristics (latency, scalability) should be validated in testing.
2. Oracle IoT “Intelligent Applications” / SaaS IoT cloud services (e.g., Asset Monitoring, Production Monitoring, Connected Assets/Service Monitoring) — higher-level applications that use IoT data to support operational functions (asset tracking, condition monitoring, service workflows). Oracle documentation for these services includes known-issues documents and feature notes.
When evaluating “Oracle IoT,” confirm whether the evaluation target is:
- Platform-first (build custom IoT applications on OCI IoT Platform), or
- App-first (subscribe to Oracle’s IoT SaaS modules that integrate with Oracle Fusion / service workflows).
