Ploomber consists of two related offerings under the same brand:
1) Ploomber (open-source): a Python-based framework for building and iterating on data/ML pipelines with a YAML/Python API, incremental builds (recompute only what changed), and tooling to move notebook-centric work toward production execution targets (for example, Airflow or Kubernetes). The core repository focuses on iterative development, caching, and support for multiple execution backends.
2) Ploomber Cloud / Ploomber application hosting (commercial): a platform that historically provided container-based hosting for data applications (Streamlit, Shiny, Dash, Flask/FastAPI, etc.) with features such as authentication, custom domains, usage analytics, autoscaling, pull-request previews, and enterprise deployment options.
Note for evaluators: Ploomber announced that its application hosting platform was retired effective October 31, 2025. That changes the evaluation: the hosting value proposition described above is no longer available in the same form, while the AI editor and the open-source pipeline framework remain available depending on current packaging and product decisions. See the sections "Known Issues & Limitations" and "When NOT to Choose This Product" for implications.
