Synopsys IC Compiler II (ICC2) is a digital place-and-route (P&R) / physical implementation system used to transform a synthesized gate-level netlist into a manufacturable physical layout (GDSII). The tool provides optimization across performance, power, and area (PPA) and includes flows targeted at advanced process nodes (FinFET and advanced routing constraints). Synopsys describes ICC2 as a multi-threaded, signoff-aware implementation engine that supports both flat and hierarchical implementation, clock tree synthesis, routing convergence, and design closure.
Vendor-stated capabilities include congestion-aware placement/optimization, CTS, advanced-node routing convergence, manufacturing compliance and signoff closure, multicorner/multimode (MCMM) handling, and machine-learning-assisted optimization. These capabilities are presented in vendor materials; independent public benchmarking is limited.
