TileDB is a database and data platform built around multi-dimensional arrays as the primary data structure. It is designed to manage and analyze complex, non-tabular scientific data (for example, genomics, single-cell, imaging, geospatial), while also supporting tabular data and general analytics.
TileDB is commonly described as two related offerings:
- TileDB Embedded (open source, MIT license): a C++ library (storage engine) for dense and sparse arrays, with language APIs and integrations. TileDB Embedded can store data locally or on cloud object storage.
- TileDB Cloud (commercial): a managed/enterprise platform that adds collaboration, governance, and scalable serverless compute on top of the core engine.
