Some market-intelligence sources report relatively small observed footprints for CIS relative to major integration vendors. These detection-based datasets are directional and can undercount enterprise deployments; treat such signals as weak evidence.
| Starting Price | Not transparently published; CIS withdrawn from active sales (pricing largely moot compared to migration cost) | Quote-based (enterprise) | Typically included with certain SQL Server licensing; cost varies by edition and deployment model |
| Best For | Legacy cube extraction into TM1/Planning Analytics and RDBMS targets; existing CIS deployments | Enterprise-wide integration across many systems, with governance and metadata capabilities | SQL Server-centric ETL for Windows-based environments; pragmatic for MS-centric shops |
| Key Strength | Purpose-built cube extraction workflows; vendor-stated preservation of hierarchies and drill paths | Broad connectivity, enterprise feature depth, scalability | Tight integration with SQL Server ecosystem and a large available talent pool |
| Key Weakness | Approaching end of support; narrow scope; limited public compliance documentation | Can be expensive and complex; platform overhead | Less strong for non-Microsoft ecosystems; may require custom engineering for complex non-tabular sources |
